Who is Exchange for Change?
Exchange for Change is a not-for-profit, industry-led organisation responsible for designing, implementing, and operating the Deposit Return Scheme across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We work closely with producers, retailers, wholesalers, and hospitality businesses to ensure the scheme is clear, consistent, and ready to roll out across the UK.
What is a Deposit Return Scheme?
A Deposit Return Scheme is a system designed to increase recycling and reduce litter.
Under the scheme:
-
A deposit is added when a drink is sold
-
The deposit is refunded when the empty bottle or can is returned
